Environmental Impact

At ReGen, our environmental initiatives are dedicated to fostering sustainability in affordable housing. We focus on utilizing reclaimed building materials and reducing waste, alongside integrating renewable energy solutions to enhance energy efficiency in both preserved and newly developed housing projects. Our commitment lies in creating environmentally friendly living spaces that contribute to the health of our planet.

Previous Projects

Energy Equity Research Network (EERN)

  • The Paradise Community Development Center, in partnership with Georgia Tech, launched a ground-breaking project to monitor energy use in 50 homes with unprecedented precision. This collaboration aims to empower households with strategies to reduce energy bills through efficiency and electrification, leveraging real-time energy data. By engaging the Grove Park community through surveys and workshops, the project also seeks to align household energy practices with broader sustainability goals. Insights from this initiative are fueling the development of a more accurate Urban Building Energy Model, which aims to guide energy retrofitting and policy strategies, especially for underserved communities.

ReBuildATL and LifeCycle Building Center

  • LBC collaboration with ReBuildATL aims to address Atlanta’s significant energy burdens, especially in Westside Atlanta’s older, owner-occupied homes, by leveraging deconstruction, sustainability skills training, and community-focused initiatives.
  • Key Initiatives:
    • Material Reuse: LBC has diverted 12 million pounds of usable materials from landfills, granting these to over 400 nonprofit organizations and saving the community $5.5 million.
    • Workforce Development: ReBuildATL offers comprehensive training in deconstruction and sustainability, preparing participants for impactful careers.
    • Home Improvements: Starting with essential weatherization, the coalition progresses to more significant repairs and retrofits, incorporating energy efficiency and recycled materials.
    • Community Solar Projects: Phase 3 focuses on implementing solar solutions to further reduce energy costs and dependence on non-renewable energy sources
